Case Study: Enabling Learners to Communicate (East Riding College)

Learner Needs
A variety of learners across the college have communication difficulties, which can be addressed by the use of software such as Text Help Read and Write Gold and Inspirations mind mapping software. Dyslexics particularly will benefit from this provision.
This video outlines how one particular learner has benefited from the provision of EZ Keys and a special dongle that will allow her to communicate more effectively with the computer and - by extension – with her classmates, teachers and peers.

Technology
Here you can see the key technologies used within this project.Click on the links to find out more about each of the technologies.
East Riding College aimed to support existing and potential learners at the college in several areas:
Learners with cerebral palsy (EZ Keys dongle)
Visually impaired learners
Dyslexic learners
Staff and learners were trained in the use of these technologies and a college-wide awareness programme of support has taken place.
This video outlines some of the organisational developments that have happened at East Riding College as a result of this project.
