Learner Needs

Some students with learning disabilities might be described as "inactive learners," remaining quiet and uninvolved in the classroom. In some cases there is a discrepancy between teacher and student behaviours.

There is a need, therefore, to increase the use of more interactive resources, such as ICT equipment and digital technology. Learners need to be engaged in the delivery of their lessons and in the assessment of their learning. Active learning in active classrooms.

The College has a responsibility to provide a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities to develop its ICT capability through the use of appropriate tools to support learning in all subjects. It is hoped that learners who have difficulties will be more motivated to learn through the use of digital cameras, interactive whiteboards, colour, pictures, animations, sound and humour.

Students need the opportunity to present information in different ways, through different channels so information presented in multimedia form gives them more opportunities to connect. Information can be accessed through text, graphics or sound to suit the students' individual learning styles and strengths.
