Case Study: Enthusing Learners (Leeds Thomas Danby College)

Learner Needs
Learner needs include the need for increased motivation and communication opportunities. The need to capture assessment evidence as and when it occurs is a vital part of vocational learning. Dyslexic learners also require support in their academic work.

Technology

The college aimed to develop the potential of interactive technologies to engage a wide range of learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and to further develop the skills of staff working with these groups to utilise the technology effectively within a person centred approach.
Wireless technology would be extended to a nearby outreach centre and mobile phones purchased that would connect to this system. Learners could then access a variety of resources that were previously unavailable to them. A media-board facility would be set-up to enable and capture this extended area of learning.
