Learner Needs
We wanted to extend our use of text messaging and podcasting in the curriculum areas of pre-apprenticeship to Engineering, and our course for those with learning difficulties, Destination Work.
The aims were to ensure good communication, notification and pastoral support were provided to the learners, and to use video and audio materials to make the learning more accessible and engaging.

Positives
Unexpected gains was teaching staff development and enthusiasm for developing pod cast materials that can be used on mobile technologies – this is rolling through to other areas including using text at staff conference.
We always realised that the phones themselves were unsustainable but they have kicked off a new enthusiasm for creating materials and communicating with our students and staff using these techniques.
Negatives
Dealing with mobile phone companies to find a suitable contract to support the data requirements of the project.
