Case Study: Using Mobile Technology to Encourage Independent Study (John Leggott College)

Learner Needs
There is a need to enable many more students with a wide range of learning difficulties and physical disabilities to access lightweight, portable, but powerful IT devices.
The technology supports and enhances learning in a broad variety of ways, both in classroom situations and whilst studying independently in college and at home.
This video shows students giving their own feedback on various technologies and outlining how the equipment is helping their learning.

Technology
Here you can see the key technologies used within this project.Click on the links to find out more about each of the technologies.
Many students with learning difficulties have loaned ultra-mobile, pocket sized PCs with pre-loaded software to help with a variety of things:
aiding and improving communication skills
helping the organisation of students’ time
helping students to plan assignments effectively
assisting with quick and efficient note-taking
The project has also strengthened the role and credibility of the support mechanisms in place to support these learners.
