Learner Needs
We wanted to extend our use of text messaging and podcasting in the curriculum areas of pre-apprenticeship to Engineering, and our course for those with learning difficulties, Destination Work.
The aims were to ensure good communication, notification and pastoral support were provided to the learners, and to use video and audio materials to make the learning more accessible and engaging.

Enhanced contact with the learner. Good motivational tool. No evidence to support losses or theft.
The text message system in groups works well and is a key driver – simple and effective.
Better communications between the learner and the tutor. This is being expanded up for next year looking at rolling out further SMS text as a communications tool.
Video podcasts seen as an effective way of providing learning material, evidence and reflective material.
